Bluefield is located in Mercer County, and boasts an estimated population of 11,000. It is known for its lush natural surroundings, a strong history in the coal industry, outdoor activities, and tourism. The area boasts a hospitable climate and its motto is “Nature’s air conditioned city, where the summer spends the winter.” The local Chamber of Commerce even passes out free lemonade when the daytime temperature exceeds ninety degrees, and has done so since 1938.
